I usually agree with you, but Schitt’s Creek just gets better every episode. I had trouble getting into it, but I highly recommend it. You will get a lot more if that emotional investment you talked about.

Schitts Creek is subjectively funny. I don’t find it funny, but all the adults above 30 I know who’ve watched it find it funny. It’s very subjective.

Schitt's Creek has such an amazing balance of humour and love. As it goes on their characters develop more and it gets more heart-warming but still remains hilarious. The good change in their characters throughout the 6 seasons makes it my favourite show in the world

Seinfeld has the best use of laugh track imo, you never even notice it (plus it was actually filmed live, so the laughter is real and natural)

The It crowd is the only show with laugh tracks I didn't mind.

The best example of a story driven sitcom, with excellent character development and is still hillarious is "The Good Place."

It's like watching nick comedies with all these laugh tracks when you're younger, then watch a show like Parks and Rec without the laugh track. Honestly, I really like TBBT. It has its faults, I'm not denying it. But it has a lot of great moments too. All the characters are inherently flawed in some way or the other, it doesn't try to force the audience to love them. I feel it gets a lot of hate just because it's mainstream and cliche, so it's cool to hate on it. But really, cliches are cliches because you do see it reflected in real life Just my honest opinion

Im British and I absolutely cannot stand the IT crowd and people told me to give it a chance so I watched ever episode and hated it even more after.

I look forward to the day when laugh tracks are a thing of the past. When I was growing up every sitcom had one and it was just the norm, I couldn’t imagine a sitcom that wasn’t filmed in front of a live audience that laughed on command. And then the simpsons happened. The simpsons proved to my kid self that I didn’t need a laugh track to tell me when to laugh. I found joy in finding the laughter from the absurd things that happened in Springfield especially watching reruns as a teen when I could understand jokes that went over my head as a kid. That was the moment I began to despise the laugh track. If a joke on a tv show is funny people will laugh, they don’t need an intrusive laugh track to tell them when to laugh, that is the most important thing the simpsons taught me.

I must be weird but I really do enjoy the laugh tracks in sitcoms. It just tells me when to laugh (when it is inserted at a reasonable place, unlike tbbt) and brings up my mood. When I hear a joke I didn't understand before, after hearing the laugh track, I would think about the joke and maybe laugh at it if I end up getting it. That is, of course, in the scenario when the laugh track doesn't sound forced and sounds like people are genuinely laughing. Apparently when humans hear laughter, we end up being happier (I heard that from a friend but I'm not sure if that's true), and I guess it matches with the purpose of sitcoms.

It’s all about timing, the office times their jokes with character reactions and cutaways to private confessionals. Sitcoms just use canned laughs. That being said, The office is a way better show than any sitcom ever.

Almost all of the funniest shows had either, 1) Live studio audiences who could laugh in real time, and occasionally the audience would loose their mind laughing and you'd hear giggles in the crowd. 2) No laugh track at all because it's about the actor's delivery.

I am about 17 and I never really liked comedies. But then my family got Hulu, and I started watching B99 and I loved it. I started branching out some more and I found I really liked early 2000 format. Shows like How I met your Mother, That 70s Show, Arrested Development, Raising Hope, Malcolm In the Middle, and Community all had me rolling. I agree with Drew on most things, but I don’t on this. Comedies are just getting worse and I don’t understand how anyone doesn’t think that. Laugh tracks are weird and the Big Bang Theory is the perfect example of laugh tracks done wrong. But old shows like Friends, Hogans Heroes, and Green Acres are undoubtedly funnier than shows like the Goldbergs and Young Sheldon. Just one guys opinion.
